Overview

Shandur Polo festival is a well known traditional polo tournament between Gilgit and Chitral Polo teams. The festival dates back to 1920 where it all started and is celebrated every year in summers with folk dances, musical programs and cultural shows. Shandur polo ground is considered to be the highest polo ground in the world at 3,7000 meters above sea level and is right next to Shandur lake.

Below are some of the festival highlights, that we are going to experience and enjoy first hand.

Itinerary

Day 2
Day 2

Breakfast at 8 am
Departure for Rumbur valley by Jeep
Rumbur is one of the 3 valleys of Kalash Valley, situated north of Bamburet and it is roughly 50 km from Chitral.
Interaction with the hospitable Kalasha tribes and get to know about their unique culture and traditions
Dinner and night stay at Bamburet or at a camp at Rumbur

Day 3
Day 3

Breakfast at 7 am
Departure for Shandur (5-6 HOURS) via 4WD
Enjoy the beautiful countryside on the way towards Shandur Polo Field
Stopovers on the way for Tea and photography
We will make our way through the beautiful Booni, Mastuj, Laspur and Ascends
Arrive at Shandur Polo Ground in the afternoon
Watch & enjoy the polo match of the day.
Several shopping outlets are setup at the vicinty where Merchants from Peshawar, Chitral and other cities giving an opportunity to the visitors to buy hand made products we shall be spending the night at the tent village setup by the administration where we shall enjoy dinner with amazing Bonefire, music and dances.

Day 4

Wake up call for Breakfast at 9 am
Enjoy the traditional local breakfast with mesmerizing snow clad mountains
Enjoy the fun filled festival afterwards all day
Interact with many local and foreign guests from all over the world
Enjoy local dances and cultural stalls
Night stay at the camp with Bonfire and BBQ dinner

Day 5
Day 5

Breakfast at 8 am
Today will be the last day of the festival and the final match shall be taking place between Chitral and Gilgit teams.
Today a lot of local supporters will arrive at the ground to support their team. Many VIPs from Pakistan also turn up in large numbers to enjoy the moments along the spectators and tourists. As per the traditions of the festival The president or Prime minster of Pakistan will be the chief guest and will handover the Trophy to the winning team.
We shall enjoy the final match, which is very enthralling and consumes everyone's attention.
Paratroopers from Pakistan army also make landings at the ground. The final ceremony is held with colorful performances by the artists and we shall spend the night at the campsite with fun filled musical night.

Departure for Gilgit
Gilgit is the capital of Gilgit Baltistan
Hotel check in at Gilgit
Enjoy local sightseeing of Gilgit city
Dinner and night stay at the hotel

Day 7
Day 7

Breakfast at 8 am
Departure for Islamabad
En route you will enjoy the view point of Nanga Parbat, the junction point of Himalaya, Karakoram and the Hindukush mountain range
Stopover at Babusar Pass, Naran and Kaghan Valley
Continue journey towards Islamabad
End of trip
